Sales and the 'Talent Magnet'

A lot is written about being a ‘Talent Magnet’, either as a company, or as President. It’s all good practice – listen, mentor, reward, provide clear goals and career maps. Good practice for the employer, but what about the employee?

Objective #1: Leverage your data

In today's digital world, every event in your company - a sale, a transaction, each step of a process, a client claim, etc - is leaving a rich data track. All this data may not be critical at first, especially out of context. But your strength as a company grows with a more intimate knowledge of your customers and processes. Connecting the dots, finding answers and insights in your data to respond to new situations is a permanent and ever changing challenge.

The Cost-Benefit Dilemma

The challenge arises when you need to include new data in the data warehouse or in your search. If it was not planned for in the initial set up of your Data Warehouse, you will incur costs and often long delays. So, it is sometimes difficult to evaluate whether the future benefit of better or improved analysis offsets today's prohibitive cost for incremental restructuring of your Data Warehouse infrastructure.

An unsatisfactory compromise

The fundamental issue with most data warehouses is the compromise that is made between data access flexibility and performance when designing the structure and content. Usually, this trade off means the data warehouse contains only subsets of databases, which is inherently limiting and cause for constant re-engineering and restructuring. It is a well-known and well travelled loop of costs, consultants, budget negotiations and very often business user frustration.

This fundamental issue has its origin in the architecture of relational databases whether they are raw based or column based and has been magnified by the sheer scale of additional data sources and the higher frequency of changing business requirements.

illuminate offers a radically new approach

illuminate was born with the ambition to address the core issue of how data is stored rather than trying to mitigate the problem by throwing more computer horsepower at it or a new complex semantic layer on the front end. The result is a new groundbreaking data storage technology with outstanding performance improvements.

Groundbreaking technology to the service of the user

By combining our correlated database engine and an ad hoc querying interface optimized to leverage the unique potential of our technology, we have created illuminate's Information Store: a simple, incredibly effective and user friendly solution.

The information store revolutionizes the way companies interact with their data in search of knowledge and business insights. All the data can be searched through free form queries with instant answers in an easy-to-use interface, and new data can be added on the fly whatever the structure and without preparation of the database.

In technical terms

Illuminate has developed a proprietary technology call Value Based Storage. [Data can now be stored in data pools free from predefined structures and with no data duplication in any data pool]. The technology creates a data-generated schema and indexes 100 percent of data (that is 100% of all of your company data not subsets) during the loading process.

Virtually no gathering of information requirements is needed to build an illuminate Information Store because you can load every column of every file and table you have in all of your company data systems.

The days of trying to identify what information users will need in their future analysis and then mapping back to current database columns in multiple tables sometimes across disparate systems, are over. You load it all and you don't even have to build the metadata or table relationships.

"What about tracking structural changes across all those disparate systems and implementing them in the Information Store?" you ask. Changes to table and column structures have no impact because storing data in data pools frees you from predefined structures. As for any new tables and/or columns, new tables are automatically added as new tables, and new columns in existing tables are automatically added to those tables, at load time.

Because our value based Information Store indexes each unique data value, any given value is stored once and only once. The Information Store therefore is 100% indexed which allows huge amounts of data to be loaded and the resulting Information Store to be incredibly compact and remain relatively small requiring much less hard drive space than any relational based data warehouses. As well as substantial savings on hardware costs, the wholly indexed Information store can hold so much more of a company's data enabling better leverage of business information.

Easy fit in your current infrastructure

There is no need to replace any existing data warehouse(s) or architecture instead; supplement them with an illuminate Information Store and retrieve all of the data easily and quickly . Last but not least, set up is counted in days or weeks vs. months for a traditional Data Warehouse.

Highlighted on Gartner Group's, Magic Quadrant

The information technology research and advisory company Gartner Group, has recognized illuminate's correlation database technology and capabilities in their Magic Quadrant for the past three years.
